From November 01-03, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA 10) held a national workshop in Ashgabat for experts of the State Frontier Service and State Customs Service of Turkmenistan, improving the K-9 service work and training system of Turkmen law enforcement agencies.

It developed the participants’ understanding of the organisation, role, capability and requirements of canine units in detecting different types of smuggled goods.

Also, the workshop covered the development of rules and procedures on the deployment of canine teams in the context of fighting cross-border crime.

The workshop involved learning from the experiences of the Border Guard Services of Latvia and Lithuania.

Similar training sessions were already held in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan in the context of this programme.
