Agricultural scientists - production

December is the time for summing up the results of the past year and getting ready to tackle new challenges. In the past year, agricultural scientists of Turkmenistan carried out production-oriented work aimed at solving such strategic tasks as providing industry with raw materials and creating food abundance in the country. It covers several areas of agricultural science: breeding high-yielding varieties of various crops, developing new biological methods for reducing land salinity and improving their fertility, innovative water and resource-saving technologies, biological methods for preparing cotton seeds for sowing, technologies for growing orchards on saline soils, and creating technical means of measuring and regulating water for irrigation of crops, etc.

Earlier in 2018-2021, based on the results of research and breeding work carried out by Turkmen scientists, they were bred and transferred to the State Seed Production and Variety Testing Service of Turkmenistan for state testing of medium-fiber cotton varieties «Ahal-5», «Yolöten-52», «Yoleten-54», «Dashoguz-150» and fine-staple cotton «Yoloten-56», as well as various varieties of soft and durum winter wheat, barley, soybeans. The created grape varieties «Rovach» and «Shaserpay» were transferred for testing. Currently, these varieties are being tested on state variety testing fields in the regions of the country. In 2021, on the occasion of the 140th anniversary of the Turkmen capital Ashgabat and the 30th anniversary of the independence of Turkmenistan, agricultural scientists bred and proposed for introduction into production medium-fiber varieties of cotton «Ashgabat-140» and «Garashsyzlyk-30».

Specialists of the Academy of Sciences and the Center for Technology developed the «Innovative Soil Biofertilization Technology» to reduce salinity in sown areas and tested it in the field. In 2022, the scientists of the Academy of Sciences invented the «Composition of finely divided mineral-organic complex fertilizer and the method of its preparation», which has industrial and agricultural significance. It is expected that this method will be widely introduced into production in the future. The Concept of rational use of irrigation water in Turkmenistan has also been prepared and work is underway to improve it.
