The status of cultural capital of the CIS allowed the city to attract the attention to ancient history and national culture, to demonstrate modern achievements of Turkmenistan in this sphere. Dashoguz, which is 400 years old, harmonically combines modern infrastructure with care for historical heritage. It is well known that this ancient centre of civilization gave high samples of art, architecture, number of crafts to the world. Large and powerful state of Kunya-Urgench Turkmens, where great scientists and philosophers, outstanding talented architects and poets, excellent doctors used to live and create and famous muftis and theologians, existed in the northern region of our country on the edge of XII – XIII centuries.
Kunya-Urgench, which left lasting trace in the history of world civilization, and Mausoleum of the great pir Najmeddin Kubra with adjoining ancient necropolis “Uch Yuz Altmysh”, evidencing that holy people were buried there, are located in hundred kilometres from Dashoguz. Well-preserved monuments, united in the State historical and cultural sanctuary “Kunya-Urgench”, which is recognized by the UNESCO as a World Heritage site, remind on former magnificence of Kunya-Urgench architecture.
The programme of the events “Cultural capital of the Commonwealth 2016” presented excellent opportunity to Dashoguz to make cultural life of the city to be richer and more dynamic. It is worth reminding that from March 30, when the start of this programme was given, number of international events, which are aimed at consolidation of friendship and understanding of the peoples, expansion of art and scientific contacts between the scientific and cultural workers, art masters of the CIS countries, were held there.
The programme of the events, held in Dashoguz as cultural capital of the Commonwealth in 2016, included the visits of cultural and scientific centres, historical sights of the velayat. The participants of the final event were presented with an opportunity to familiarize with collection of artefacts and rarities the evidence of richest history and culture of the region, its flora and fauna, which are kept in Local historical museum. Picturesque works of Dashoguz painters, portrayed excellent landscapes of the region and historical sites, were exhibited in the foyer of the museum.
Special interest of foreign guests was aroused by museum exposition, dedicated to the art of famous folk musicians, masters, popularisers of national Turkmen music and classical poetry.
Another scientific and cultural centre, the velayat library introduced its funds, museum of the history of book, excellent reading halls and its technical provision to the participants. Special interest was aroused by the observatory, located under the dome of the building.
Closing events were followed by ethnographic frame – exhibitions, which demonstrated excellent samples of national crafts. The guests were met with songs and dances by folk ethnographic bands of the velayat, bakhshys musicians, which are the northern region of Turkmenistan is famous for.
The Ruhyiyet Palace, where numerous participants of the ceremony – the leaders and representatives of the Ministry of Culture, non-government organizations and universities, cultural workers and scientists, reporters, the elders and youth have gathered, became the centre of the events. There were representatives of the Executive Committee of the CIS, Interstate Fund of Humanitarian Cooperation of the CIS countries, cultural sphere as well as Interstate television and radio company “Mir” among foreign participants of the event.
The video on different cultural and scientific events, successfully held during the year under the status of Dashoguz as cultural capital of the Commonwealth 2016, was demonstrated to the participants.
