Turkmenbashi International Sea Port plays a growing role in international cargo transportation

Since the beginning of 2023, the role of the seaport of Turkmenistan as a transit hub in international cargo transportation has noticeably intensified. JSC "Transport and Logistics Center of Turkmenistan" (TLCT) carries out transit cargo transportation from neighboring countries that do not have access to the Caspian Sea. Thus, TLCT sent through the International Sea Port of Turkmenbashi containers of the Joint Stock Company of Uzbekistan "UzAVTO MOTORS", loaded with auto parts, to the customer - LLC "AZERMASH SP" of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

TLCT also participates in the CASCA+ international multimodal transportation project aimed at enhancing cargo transportation along the Asia-Pacific region - China - Kyrgyzstan - Uzbekistan - Turkmenistan - Azerbaijan - Georgia - Turkey route. Recently, copper products produced at the Almalyk Mining and Processing Plant of Uzbekistan were delivered in containers from the Sergeli land hub to the Turkmenbashi international seaport of Turkmenistan. The containerized cargo, shipped from here to Azerbaijan on cargo ships, then passes through the Georgian port of Poti and heads to Europe via the Black Sea.

Currently, Kyrgyzstan is working on the issue of creating a Southern Transport Corridor through Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, the Caspian Sea and Astrakhan to enter the Russian markets and increase the volume of mutual trade. According to the media, the creation of such a corridor with the transshipment of goods through the port of Turkmenbashi to Astrakhan will be the beginning of a new stage in the development of the economy of Kyrgyzstan.

In January, the Azerbaijani cargo and passenger ferry Ro-Pax Zarifa Aliyeva arrived at the Turkmenbashi International Seaport for the first time. The ship delivered 16 passengers, 16 heavy vehicles and 20 cargo trailers on its first voyage to the International Sea Port of Turkmenbashi.

After testing this route, the ship is expected to run once a day in the future. Currently, export, import and transit cargo is transported from Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan and Turkey.

The increase in the role of the Turkmenbashi International Sea Port in transit cargo transportation and the fuller use of port infrastructure is the proposal for the storage of goods at the Customs warehouse of the Container Terminal when importing cars and spare parts into the territory of Turkmenistan and transiting to the countries of Central Asia and Europe. According to the information on the port website, when importing goods into the territory of Turkmenistan, a customs warehouse is allowed, which is under customs control for 3 years without paying duties, taxes and without applying prohibitions and restrictions of an economic nature established by the legislation of Turkmenistan. This allows you to send goods stored in a customs warehouse from the port by road, rail and sea in any direction.

The main characteristics of the customs warehouse of the Turkmenbashi International Sea Port:

– material-technical and technologically fully equipped center,

– a loading and unloading area located in the immediate vicinity of the warehouse;

– access control system, fire and burglar alarms, video surveillance if necessary.
