Turkmen weightlifter world champion among girls under 17 with three gold medals

The title of world champion with three gold medals was won by the Turkmen athlete Medine Amanova at the ongoing youth (under 17) world championship in weightlifting in Durres (Albania). This remarkable success was achieved by a student of the 11th grade of Ashgabat secondary school No. 104 in the weight category up to 59 kg, in which 18 weightlifters from 17 countries competed for awards.

Out of six valid attempts, Medine converted four, which was enough to win three golds in the snatch (90 kg), clean and jerk (109 kg) and biathlon (199 kg). As a result, our compatriot was 3 kg ahead of the bronze medalist of last year's world championship Jessica Isabelle Palacios Dahomes (Ecuador) - 195 kg (88 + 107) and 12 kg ahead of Enkiledu Karja (Albania), who closed the top three winners - 187 kg (87 + 100).

2022 has left Medine with mixed feelings. At the previous youth world championship (not older than 17 years old) in Mexican Leon, having won bronze in the snatch (83 kg), she could not lift any of the declared weights in the clean and jerk and finished her performance with zero marks. But at the 2022 Asian Championship in Tashkent, where medals were simultaneously played out in two tournaments of different age, M. Amanova, speaking in a new weight category for herself up to 64 kg, won a total of five medals. In the competition among girls (under 17 years old), where four athletes fought for awards in this weight, she took three gold medals - in the snatch (85 kg), clean and jerk (104 kg) and the combined event (189 kg). And in the tournament among juniors (under 20 years old), where 9 athletes already competed for medals, Medine, with her results, took 5th place in the clean and jerk and won two bronze medals - in the snatch and biathlon.

17-year-old Medine is engaged in weightlifting under the guidance of her father, the coach of the School of Higher Sportsmanship and the national team of Turkmenistan among girls (not older than 17 years old) Gurbandurdy Amanov.

It should be noted that the Albanian platform turned out to be very successful for the Amanov's family. On Sunday, Medine's younger sister, 13-year-old Ogulshat Amanova, won the world champion title among weightlifters under 17 in the weight category up to 45 kg.

“I myself was a weightlifter, I always wanted to win championship medals, but this did not happen,” said the head of the family, Gurbandurdy Amanov. “Now I am proud of how my dream is being realized in my daughters.”

268 athletes from 57 countries are participating in the current junior world championship in weightlifting. The competition started on March 25 and will end on April 1. The competition is an annual event and is held under the auspices of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF).

The team of Turkmenistan at the youth world championship in Albania under the leadership of Gurbandurdy Amanov and Ahmed Sariyev is represented by 9 weightlifters.

Earlier, Perhat Bagtiyarov also won three medals in our team. In the weight category up to 61 kg, in which 18 weightlifters from 16 countries competed for awards, a 10th grade student of the Ashgabat sports school "Olimp" realized four out of six valid attempts, winning gold in the snatch (114 kg) and two silver medals in the clean and jerk (144 kg) and biathlon (258 kg).

Gulyalek Kakamuradova won another medal - bronze - for the team of Turkmenistan today in the snatch in the weight category up to 64 kg. After the first exercise, she was third (88 kg), losing only 1 kg to Taisiya Alekseeva (89 kg) from Kazakhstan and 5 kg to Saetiya Thanaporn (93 kg) from Thailand. However, in the clean and jerk, Gulyalek showed the fifth result (101 kg) and eventually took 5th place (189 kg) among 14 athletes.

Last year, speaking at the same world championship in Mexico, G. Kakamuradova with a result of 165 kg (snatch - 74 kg, clean and jerk - 91 kg) took ninth place in the lighter weight category up to 59 kg.

Another set of awards at the world championship in Albania was played by weightlifters in the weight category up to 67 kg, in which our athlete Didarbek Dzhumabaev, with a result of 229 kg (104 + 125), took 12th place among 14 weightlifters.

Thus, after five days of competition, the national team of Turkmenistan with 10 medals (6 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze) takes 2nd place in the team standings, yielding only to the Philippine team with 12 medals (7 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze).

In our men's team, Suleyman Jafarov (up to 96 kg) has yet to enter the Albanian platform of the world championship, and in the women's team - Anamjan Rustamova (up to 81 kg).
