The deputies of the Mejlis with support of the personnel of the Central Committee for elections and referendums in Turkmenistan held the sessions in Ashgabat and velayat centres, having reviewed the issues of organization of the campaign for elections of the President of Turkmenistan in full compliance with legislation of the country and international experience.
The heads of the departments, hyakimliks and local administration, the Democratic Party, the Party of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, the Agrarian Party, representatives of non-governmental organizations and association, personnel of law enforcement agencies, members of election committees were invited to participate in the meeting. The issues related to the stages of the pre-election process, provision of polling stations, organized elections, meeting of the candidates to the highest state post with the electorate, election campaign in mass media were raised during the session. The provisions of the Electoral Code were explained to the participants.
It was mentioned that according to National legislation, all candidates have equal rights and opportunities for meeting with electorate and their familiarization with programmes, electoral campaigns including air time on TV, Radio, printing in newspapers, etc. The organisation of such events is given to the electoral committees together with relative executive and local administration, heads of the enterprises, departments and structures.
Large role in comprehensive cover of the electoral campaign and forthcoming elections of the President of Turkmenistan is given to mass media. The necessity of integrated approach to preparation of information materials and cover of the events, which are stipulated by the plan of the Central Electoral Committee, was highlighted. Special stress was made on the importance of increase the awareness of the population, its civil role and responsibility in further intensification of democratic reforms in Turkmen society.
The elections of the President of Turkmenistan are planned for February 12, 2017. Three candidates for the highest governmental position have been already nominated. At this stage, the initiative groups of the citizens continue to gather signatures to support their candidates.
