On April 12, on the Day of Cosmonautics and the International Day of Human Space Flight, bouquets and flowers are brought to the monuments of the first cosmonaut of the Earth Yuri Gagarin, installed in many countries of the world.
A memorial bust of Yuri Alekseevich appeared in the capital of Turkmenistan relatively recently.
A bronze statue of the pioneer of astronautics, made by sculptor Alexei Leonov, was solemnly opened in Ashgabat on the territory of the Department of Education, Science and Culture of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in April 2021. Since then, on a significant date, schoolchildren, astronautics enthusiasts and ordinary Ashgabat residents come here to honor the memory of the space pioneer.
This morning pupils of the Joint Turkmen-Russian comprehensive school named after A.S. Pushkin and representatives of public organizations laid flowers at the Gagarin monument. Representative of Rossotrudnichestvo in Turkmenistan Yulia Zaitseva addressed the audience:
– Today in the Russian Federation we are celebrating a holiday familiar to all of us from childhood – Cosmonautics Day, and all over the world – the International Day of the first manned flight into space. This is one of our favorite holidays, which we are truly proud of, because the feat that Yuri Alekseevich Gagarin accomplished on April 12, 1961 has no analogues in the world. In those days, flying into space was not just a breakthrough, but a truly unearthly event, made possible thanks to the efforts and work of a large number of people.
It is very gratifying that so much attention is paid to the Day of Cosmonautics and our common heritage in Turkmenistan. Schools in Turkmenistan today host a large number of various quizzes, quests, sports events dedicated to this holiday. We are grateful to the leadership of the country for the careful attitude to this event and the preservation of our common heritage.
On the occasion of Cosmonautics Day, the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov sent heartfelt letters to the Hero of Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation, instructor-test cosmonaut, commander of the cosmonaut corps of the Roscosmos State Corporation for Space Activities Oleg Kononenko https://tdh.gov.tm/ru/post/35507 /president-turkmenistana-pozdravil-okononenko-s-dnyom-kosmonavtiki congratulations.
