Today, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov received Acting Head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), Assistant Secretary-General for Europe, Central Asia, and the Americas Miroslav Jenca.
Expressing gratitude for the time spent for the meeting and the cordial welcome, the diplomat conveyed warm greetings to the head of the Turkmen state from UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who addressed all Turkmen citizens with the wishes of peace, happiness and prosperity.
Conveying best wishes in return to the head of the largest and authoritative organization, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov warmly welcomed the guest to the ancient and hospitable Turkmen land, expressing the hope that during his visit the current areas of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United Nations would be discussed and prospects for its development determined.
Possessing the status of permanent neutrality, twice recognized by the member states of the United Nations, our country takes an active part in international life and consistently comes up with constructive initiatives.
Thus, the Resolutions put forward by Turkmenistan were unanimously supported, including “The role and importance of the policy of neutrality in maintaining international peace, security and sustainable development”, “The role of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia”, etc. At the 45th plenary session 77 th session of the UN General Assembly, the Resolution on declaring 2023 the International Year of Dialogue as a Guarantee of Peace, submitted by our country, was also adopted, co-sponsored by 68 member states of the Organization.
Thus, the consistent steps taken in recent years on the initiative of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan, Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, have become an important contribution to the active promotion of diplomacy of peace and mutual respect, the return of multilateral international dialogue to the diplomatic channel. At present, this large-scale work is successfully continuing, acting as one of the strategic vectors of our country's foreign policy.
Today, Turkmenistan and the UN are closely cooperating in a wide range of areas, including in such important areas as ensuring global peace and security, sustainable energy and transport, achieving the SDGs, as well as in addressing economic, social, humanitarian and environmental issues.
“Effective cooperation with the UN is embodied in the implementation of important regional and global initiatives put forward by our country, in the joint implementation of large projects and programs in various fields,” the President of the country noted, stating with satisfaction that in recent years Turkmenistan has joined the leadership a number of commissions, committees and councils of the Community of Nations, was repeatedly elected Vice-President of the UN General Assembly.
A separate topic of discussion within the framework of the conversation was the activities of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA).
Taking the opportunity, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov thanked Miroslav Jenca for his great personal contribution to the development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN.
Turkmenistan supports the work and initiatives of the UNRCCA, in particular, in promoting political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the states of the region and neighboring countries, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized, expressing confidence that the potential of the Center would continue to be in demand.
At the end of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov wished the Acting Head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia Miroslav Jenca good health, prosperity and further success in his responsible work.
