Kurash masters from Turkmenistan have started preparing for the World Championship in Ashgabat

With international training camps in the Kyrgyz Republic, Turkmenistan's athletes have begun preparations for the 14th World Kurash Wrestling Championship, which will be held in November this year in Ashgabat.

The Turkmen team is holding joint training sessions with wrestlers from Iran, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan at the preparatory training camp, held in Issyk-Kul region under the auspices of the International Kurash Association (IKA).

10 wrestlers are preparing for the upcoming competitions in the men's national team under the leadership of Dortkuli Tejenov, the Honored coach of Turkmenistan, and 6 athletes are in the women's team, which is led by Shirin Kubayeva, the silver medalist of the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games 2017.

Ovez Atalyev, the Secretary General of the Kurash Federation of Turkmenistan, told the correspondent of "GA", that our compatriots are solving two tasks at the training camp in the Kyrgyz Republic – they are preparing for the XIX Summer Asian Games, which will be held from September 23 to October 8, 2023 in Hangzhou, China's eastern Zhejiang province, and the Home World Championship.

The Turkmen team will be represented at the upcoming Asian Games in the Kurash wrestling tournament by Mukhamed Kurbanov (weight category up to 66 kg), Ishanmyrat Atayev (up to 90 kg) and Tejen Tejenov (over 90 kg), Aishirin Haydarova, Ainur Amanova (both up to 52 kg) and Jakhan Mukhamedova (up to 78 kg).

At the World Championships in Ashgabat, it is planned to compete for 15 sets of medals – in seven men's and eight women's weight categories.

Last year, the World Kurash Championship was held in Pune, India, with representatives of 60 countries, competing for awards. Turkmenistan was represented by 13 wrestlers (7 men and 6 women), and three of them returned home with medals.

Aishirin Haydarova, a coach-teacher of the 2nd sports school of the Main Department of Physical Culture and Sports of Lebap velayat, won silver in the team of Turkmenistan in the weight category up to 48 kg, and bronze medals went to Ainur Amanova, a coach-teacher of the 7th sports school of Lebap velayat (up to 52 kg) and Aziza Kurbanova, a student of the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports (up to 78 kg).

This is not the first time Turkmenistan will host representative international competitions. In 2017, the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games were held in the Olympic Village of the capital with great success, and in 2018 – the World Weightlifting Championship and the International Rally "Amul-Khazar 2018".

In June this year, the Turkmen capital for the second time became the venue for the Central Asian Team Tennis Championship among boys and girls under 12, in which the title of the strongest was contested by young athletes from six countries: Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.

And now Ashgabat is preparing to host another major tournament of world scale. In order to hold the World Kurash Championship at a high level, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov signed a Decree on July 12, creating the Organizing Committee and approving its composition.
