The delegation of Turkmenistan, consisting of representatives of the Academy of Sciences, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and two metropolitan universities, took part in a two-day forum “Embracing Digital Technology for Sustainable Economic Development” organized by the Institute of Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation in partnership with China-Eurasia Expo Secretariat and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Finance Department, and with financial support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the ADB-PRC Regional Knowledge Sharing Initiative.

The event was held in Urumqi, where the headquarters of the Institute is located.

The Institute of Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation is an intergovernmental organization dedicated to promoting economic ties in Central Asia.

The Institute is owned and operated by 11 member countries: Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, China, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

It also acts as a bridge between the CAREC clusters to ensure coherence in the development and implementation of policies, programs and projects to promote regional economic cooperation and integration. The widespread embracing of digital technology for sustainable economic development in the CAREC region is considered as one of the key activities of the Institute.

Turkmenistan joined CAREC in 2010 and supports the Program's vision of an integrated and globally connected region. The country participates in the planning of regional projects in the field of transport, trade and energy security.
