The role of the private sector in agriculture and animal husbandry was discussed in Turkmenistan

The role of the private sector in the field of agriculture and animal husbandry was discussed during a meeting organized within the framework of the project "Development of the National Adaptation Planning Process in Turkmenistan". The project is implemented by the United Nations Development Program and the Green Climate Fund.

Thus, representatives of the public and private sectors, civil society considered the issues of involving the private sector in taking preventive measures to adapt to climate change. The participants also discussed the introduction of modern means of measuring water consumption for farms.

Turkmenistan aims to strengthen its capacity for adaptation and resilience to climate change by introducing adaptation measures into planning processes.

Given the fact that irrigation accounts for 70% of the water consumed by agriculture, the need to control and manage water supplies is of paramount importance. To ensure that water is used as economically and as efficiently as possible, irrigation water use must be carefully monitored.

The level of accuracy will depend on the choice of measuring technology used. This, in turn, will depend on the type and scale of the irrigation system (from small single farms to agricultural holdings).
