President of Turkmenistan considers there is no alternative to the UN

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, speaking at the plenary meeting of the 78th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York, stated that there is no alternative to the UN.

“Amid the discussions on the role of the UN in the current world and suggestions to reform, it is a fact that there is no alternative to the UN,” the head of Turkmenistan stated.

He emphasized that, from the day of its development, UN stands as the only universal and legitimate organization, responsible for peacekeeping and providing global and comprehensive security and stable modern structure of the interstate relations. Serdar Berdimuhamedov especially underlined that this is the principal position of Turkmenistan.

In his opinion, it is necessary to consistently and persistently make use of the potential of global organization, its political, diplomatic tools, and moral authority in order to make balanced, non-ideological assessment of current events and tendencies and to overcome the distrust and confrontational tensions in the world politics, and try to indicate the prospective to compromise and to consider mutual interests.

“It is only possible under the auspices of UN in an open and genuine dialogue. We are aware that it will be kind of dialogue and will not to be easy. However, it is necessary,” the head of Turkmenistan said.
