Farmers in Dashoguz velayat expect to receive at least ten centners of sesame harvest from each hectare this year. They strive to grow sesame here strictly on a scientific basis, taking into account the accumulated cultivation experience. Its main producers in the region will be the Koneurgench etrap and the S. Turkmenbashy etrap, where they plan to produce one hundred and forty tons of valuable products this year, and the Akdepe etrap, where sesame is planted on one hundred and thirty-five hectares.

Mass production of sesame in the region is facilitated by the short growing season and the fact that it grows normally even at very high temperatures. At the same time, sunny and hot weather, necessary for the crop during the ripening period, usually lasts until the end of autumn.

Another important factor is that sesame is a drought-resistant crop that requires less water than other crops. Among oilseeds, sesame seeds stand out for their nutritional value and high fat content. Local residents especially value the oil for its aroma, in combination with local varieties of rice, which gives the pilaf a special taste.

By producing sesame, the farmers of the velayat intend to contribute to the successful implementation of the tasks set for the agro-industrial complex of Turkmenistan to increase the variety and volume of production of high-quality and competitive agricultural products, and to satisfy, through their own production, the population’s needs for food.
