Youth conferences are an important step in shaping a sustainable and viable future of the country

On the eve of the Conference of Youth (COY18) and the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 28) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, youth meetings on climate change are being held in various regions of Turkmenistan.

One of the first such conferences was held in early October at the State Energy Institute of Turkmenistan (Mary), and a similar event on issues related to the impact of climate change on the water resources of the countries of the Central Asian region was held at the Turkmen State Pedagogical Institute named after Seyitnazar Seydi (Turkmenabad) on October 16.

The organizers were the Government of Turkmenistan jointly with the Embassies of the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates and the UN Mission in Turkmenistan.

The conferences were attended by Representatives of various UN agencies and relevant ministries of Turkmenistan, responsible embassy officials, as well as young people under the age of 30, SDG ambassadors, lecturers and students of the Turkmen State Pedagogical Institute named after Seyitnazar Seydi, experts on climate change and environmental protection and representatives of public organizations.

During the discussions, the young speakers presented a number of interesting topics: "Promoting sustainable agricultural development and food security by improving sustainable water management", "Promoting sustainable and circular consumption", " Water safety and efficiency".

During the discussions, original ideas were expressed about the relationship between climate change, water resources, sustainable agriculture and responsible consumption.

Topics related to environmental education were discussed separately.

The conferences promoted dialogue and cooperation to solve the urgent problem of the impact of climate change on water resources, as well as the accessibility of environmental education for all, and became an important step in empowering the new generation to actively participate in shaping a sustainable and viable future for their country and the whole world.
