Circus career of famous horse rider, founder and leader of Galkynysh group Pygy Bayramdurdiyev started with remarkable meeting with one of the brightest star of Turkmen fancy riding Batyr Annayev.
Pygy was first grade student of Ashgabat Indira Ghandi medical college at that time. He studied pharmacology as his mom wanted and combined the study with sport training at Kopetdag stadium and Zahmet Sports Centre. There, he met the person who told him that the circus looking for novices for Young Turkmenistan show.
- What can you do? – Batyr Annayev asked me.
- The somersault, handstand, split. – I answered him.

- I felt uncomfortable, - Pygy Bayramdurdiyev recollects. Although I grew up in the village, I never ride a horse. But I couldn’t tell that to him… They brought Melekush and for the first time in my 17 years, I straddled the horse. Melekush felt the power of legs and arms of the rider and was calm. I managed to make one circle around arena and keep myself in the saddle.
Batyr Annayev took me on probation period. I got involved in hard circus workdays. I became a groom, partner and friend for Melekush and expressed his goodwill by absolute patience during rehearsal, which lasted from morning until night. I mastered all tricks of fancy riding for four month and successfully passed exams. After that, Soyuzgostsirk appointed me as an artist of the circus. It was in 1989.
This was how Honoured Cultural Artist of Turkmenistan Pygy Bayramdurdiyev came to the circus. He learned from the best aces of fancy riding like Batyr Annayev, Dovlet Hojabayev, Byashim Annayev and Amandurdy Annayev who represented Turkmen riding school in international arena.
Owing to personal patronage of president Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Pygy managed to preserve and continue glorious traditions of circus fancy riding. In 2010, on the day of Turkmen Horse, equestrian sport group with symbolical name Galkynysh (Revival) debuted on the arena of Turkmen State Circus.
Ever since, the glorious band took winning part in four prestigious international equestrian festivals. The cups and diplomas occupied deserving place in the museum of the circus.
Participation in traditional tournament of circus fancy riding in Monaco is ahead. It will take place in 2019. If the fortune is good to Turkmen riders, the cherished victory will be trimph crown of the achievements of national school of fancy riding.
The families of circus artists are special one and as a rule, the children inherit the profession of their parents. Sometimes there are some exceptions but very rare. The elder daughter of Pygy Bayramdurdiyev Maysa had all the gifts to become circus rider but her interest in pharmacology defined her choice of life.
When his son Serdar was one year old, the father put him on the horse. The boy tried all his power to catch on the bits but did not burst into tears. Serdar became circus artist when he was seven and participated in the hit of the programme – the pyramid. Serdar, holding flying State flag, was crowning acrobatic composition. That is why, when Pygy Bayramdurdiyev was starting the revival of acrobatic fancy riding in our country, he already had one equestrian. Since then, Serdar performs most venturesome tricks in the show. Today, he demonstrates new breath-taking show named “The Dentist”.
The youngest daughter in Bayramdurdiyev family was born after her father made hajj to Mecca that is why the parents called her Medina. When she was three, she stepped into the circus and she realized immediately that this is the best place in the world.
Median started her career as circus artist when she was six. Today, she is the second grade schoolgirl of comprehensive school No. 42. The girl did not make her choice of circus genre yet as she likes everything - she sings and dances, like the height and she tries herself as air gymnast. Medina also likes pet training, she did performances with goats and now she is preparing the number with doves. But best of all she likes enter the arena among fearless and gracious amazons of Galkynysh. She like her father, brother Serdar and other riders of talented group dreams of the victory of Turkmen equestrians in Monte-Carlo and trains for that.
