As part of the awareness campaign of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which will be celebrated on December 10 this year, a seminar was held in Turkmenistan for representatives of law enforcement agencies on human rights, non-discrimination, protection, accountability and other international UN standards in the field of human rights.
The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, including the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Military Institute of the Ministry of Defense, the State Border Service Institute and the National Security Institute of the Ministry of National Security of Turkmenistan, who discussed the integration of the OHCHR training manual into existing national educational programs and curriculum of law enforcement educational institutions.
Jan Arno Hessbruegge, OHCHR Legal Adviser, also addressed students of the International University for Humanities and Development with a lecture on two anniversaries - the 30th anniversary of the Vienna World Conference on Human Rights and the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The events dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights are organized by the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights’ Regional Office for Central Asia. Earlier, during the meeting in Ashgabat, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R. Meredov and the Regional Representative of the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Central Asia Matilda Bogner emphasized the significance of the contribution of the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in the implementation of national programs and plans in the field of human rights, particularly the National Human Rights Action Plan for 2021-2025.
