Representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Turkmenistan, UNICEF and the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Turkmenistan have opened the second child-friendly room in the police department of Turkmenabat city, Lebap velayat. Created with the aim of strengthening measures to protect children who have become victims or witnesses of crimes, it provides a safe and friendly environment for children, taking into account their age, maturity and psychological state.
"Turkmenistan, as a participant in major international treaties on human rights and the rights of the child, pays special attention to strengthening the provision and protection of the rights of all children in contact with the law, including child victims and witnesses of crimes," noted Geldimyrat Khaldurdyev, Head of Law and International Relations Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. "The implementation of special measures ensures the protection and assistance to minors, improves the quality of testimony obtained from them, which serves to protect their interests."
The joint efforts of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and UNICEF are aimed at ensuring that special measures to protect children comply with international standards of justice for children. A concrete result of such efforts is the establishment of a child-friendly room based on international best practices.
