University teachers took part in training on international water law

As part of the USAID Regional Project on Water Resources and Environment, on the 28th of February, a training on water diplomacy, international water law and rational use of water resources was held at the «Archabil» Hotel in the capital. During the training, representatives of the State Committee for Water Resources of Turkmenistan, specialists and project experts spoke about the country’s experience in working on transboundary facilities, the legal framework and international agreements on the joint use and protection of shared waters using the example of the Dostluk reservoir, as well as international experience in the field of rational use water resources.

The event featured a presentation of a training course developed within the framework of the project on the rational use of water resources, the safety of hydraulic structures and transboundary water cooperation, intended for introduction into the curriculum in higher educational institutions of Turkmenistan. The training on water diplomacy, international water law and rational use of water resources is intended to be a step towards introducing the discipline of water diplomacy and international water law into the educational process in Turkmenistan.

The five-year USAID Regional Water and Environment Project aims to strengthen the technical capacity and cooperation of Central Asian countries in water resources to enhance stability, economic prosperity, and ecosystem resilience.
