On March 19, 2024, at the Palais des Nations, the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the UN Office in Geneva organized a cultural event dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the birth of the great Turkmen poet and thinker Magtymguly Fragi. About this reports MFA of Turkmenistan.

The event was attended by the Deputy Secretary General of the UN - Head of the UN Geneva Office T.Valovaya, Head of the UNESCO Office in Geneva A.Thompson - Flores, Permanent Representatives and diplomats of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Türkiye, Iran accredited to the UN Office in Geneva , Armenia, Hungary, the EU and a number of other states. Representatives of UN structural units, various NGOs, media and the Turkmen diaspora also took part in the event.

During their speech, the Turkmen side made special mention of Magtymguly’s life path, his ideas of humanism, peace, love for the Motherland, and his significant role in the formation of today’s united Turkmen people and state. The role of the poet, who is the founder of Turkmen classical literature and already an integral part of the treasury of world culture, is outlined.

In turn, the participants of the event noted the relevance in today’s world situation of the ideas of peace, friendship, brotherhood, mutual respect, unity that the poet promoted three centuries ago, as well as their consonance with the principles of the UN.

Representatives of the countries of the region noted the importance of Magtymguly’s poetry not only for Turkmen literature, but for the world along with such great scientists and thinkers as Ferdowsi, Rumi, Nizami, Navoi, whose works constitute the golden fund of world culture.

During the event, as part of the ongoing actions to familiarize the world community with the work of Magtymguly Fragi, the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan handed over copies of books to the Director General of the UN Office in Geneva from the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan - collections of the poet’s poems, published in various languages of the world, as well as figurines of the great thinker for subsequent transfer to the UN Library and Museum.

In addition, videos dedicated to the life of Magtymguly Fragi were presented to the participants.

Also, as part of this event, an exhibition of decorative and applied arts based on national motives was organized.
