A series of workshops on integrating adaptation to climate change has ended in Turkmenistan

The final workshop was held in Turkmenistan as part of a series of events on integrating adaptation to climate change.

It is provided within the framework of the project «Development of the national adaptation planning process in Turkmenistan», which is being implemented by the UN Development Program in cooperation with the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan.

A series of seminars began in June 2023 and was organized in partnership with the scientific and information centre of the Interstate Coordination Water Commission for Sustainable Development of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea.

Representatives of a number of ministries and departments of Turkmenistan, production associations, Hakimliks, and the Caspian Sea Institute took part in them.

A wide range of topics were covered throughout the series of events, culminating in a discussion on climate change adaptation tools for water and agricultural management.

Leading experts in the water and agricultural sectors presented measures to combat drought, ways to increase the efficiency of the development of irrigated agriculture in the face of climate change, and the main directions for the development of renewable energy sources to improve water availability in the face of climate change.

Participants were also involved in practical exercises, during which the results of the activities were summarized.
