Development of "green" cities discussed in Turkmenistan

A seminar on studying international experience in introducing innovative energy efficiency technologies in the electric power industry was held in Mary. 

The seminar was organized within the framework of the project "Sustainable Cities in Turkmenistan: Integrated Green Urban Development in Ashgabat and Avaza", implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in collaboration with the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan. 

The seminar was attended by specialists from the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan, teachers and students of the State Energy Institute of Turkmenistan in Mary, and experts from the Research and Production "Center Renewable Energy" at this higher education institution. 

The participants were presented the work carried out by the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan and UNDP project specialists in the implementation of innovative energy efficiency technologies and transition to renewable energy sources in the country.  

The participants familiarized themselves with the activities of the UNDP Sustainable Cities project on the creation of a regulatory framework pertaining to energy efficiency, including the National Strategy for Renewable Energy Development in Turkmenistan until 2030, the Law of Turkmenistan "On Renewable Energy Sources", and the new Law of Turkmenistan "On Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving".

The project "Sustainable Cities in Turkmenistan: Integrated Green Urban Development in Ashgabat and Avaza", funded by the Global Environmental Fund, aims to promote the development of sustainable cities in Turkmenistan, improve environmental monitoring, sustainable waste management, and the development of sustainable transport.
