From May 7 to June 6, 2024, the Institute of State, Law and Democracy of Turkmenistan, together with the United Nations Population Fund and the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat, is holding a series of «Round Tables» in Ashgabat and in the velayats of the country to monitor the implementation of the National Action Plan on Gender Equality in Turkmenistan for 2021 – 2025.
The events are attended by members of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, representatives of the Hakimliks of the velayats and Ashgabat, the Institute of State, Law and Democracy, the ministries of education, health and medical industry, labor and employment, law enforcement agencies, as well as bar associations, the Women’s Union, regional trade union associations, the National Red Crescent Society, Youth Organization named after Magtymguly.
The round table discussions focused on the preparation of a draft periodic National Report on the implementation of Turkmenistan’s international obligations in the field of gender equality to the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women, which monitors the implementation of the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women. Meeting participants note the achieved results and upcoming tasks in the implementation of the current National Action Plan, and exchange views on the development of a new NAP.
Round tables on gender equality issues have already been held in Mary, Dashoguz and Lebap velayats.
Until the end of May, these events are planned to be held in the Balkan velayat and Ashgabat, and the series of «Round Tables» will end on June 6 in the Ahal velayat.
