On June 27-28, the Scientific and Methodological Center for Sustainable Development Goals of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan hosted a training session with participation of media representatives in Ashgabat and Arkadag city.
UN representatives in Turkmenistan informed participants about the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and recent progress in the country.
Arkadag city is highlighted as a model for SDG 11: "Sustainable Cities and Communities," aimed at ensuring inclusive, safe, resilient, and environmentally sustainable urban areas.
The city, exemplifying "smart" and "green" technologies, is celebrating its first anniversary. It received 21 international certificates and awards, including:
- The Certificate of Compliance with the Sustainable Development Goals and international requirements for ecological construction in accordance with the results of an independent scientific and technical study from the Central Research and Design Institute of the Ministry of Construction and Housing-Communal Services of the Russian Federation
- UN-Habitat Certificate of Appreciation for the efforts made towards implementing the principles of inclusive, safe, resilient, and smart sustainable neighborhoods and communities, hereby contributing to localizing Sustainable Development Goals and the New Urban Agenda in Turkmenistan.
The event also discussed initiatives and experience of Turkmenistan's cooperation with international organizations on promoting sustainable energy, improving education quality, ensuring healthy lifestyles, well-being, and decent living conditions for the population.
