On Sunday, July 7, an important socio-political event will take place in Ashgabat - the election of Mejlis deputies to replace those who have left in certain constituencies.

On this day, appointed by the Decree of the Mejlis, citizens will exercise their constitutional right to vote for the most worthy and authoritative representatives who have earned the respect and trust of their compatriots. The crucial campaign phase has concluded.

Three Mejlis deputies will be elected for constituences No. 1 "Garaşsyzlyk", No. 2 "Bitaraplyk" and No. 6 "Köpetdag" in Ashgabat. Sixty polling stations will be operating for this purpose.

Polling stations will be open on July 7 from 7:00 to 19:00. For 10 days prior to the official election date, Turkmenistan citizens who will be away from their place of residence on election day have been given the right to vote early.

Currently, three political parties in the country are contributing to the elections on a broad democratic basis.

Several candidates are running for the mandate of public trust in each constituency, demonstrating the alternative nature of the elections. They were nominated by the Democratic Party, the Party of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, and the Agrarian Party. Citizen groups also nominated candidates proposed by general meetings of voters residing in the constituency.

Participants of pre-election meetings emphasized that thanks to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov's socially-oriented policy, Turkmenistan is successfully working on democratizing the country's socio-political life and improving civil society institutions. The Law "On Political Parties" was adopted to implement guaranteed political rights for citizens.

All stages of the election campaign, during which each candidate had the opportunity to meet with voters, were conducted in a timely manner and in strict accordance with requirements of Turkmenistan's legislation and the generally accepted international norms.

A group of national observers from political parties and public organizations will monitor the electoral process in all districts, polling stations and the upcoming Sunday elections.

According to national observers monitoring all stages of the electoral process, the election campaign was conducted in compliance with the principle of competitiveness among candidates, who had equal opportunities to familiarize voters with their election programs.

Citizens, who will come to polling stations on July 7 to vote for the most worthy candidates, are confident that their elected representatives will make a significant contribution to the successful implementation of large-scale programs for further socio-economic development of the country. These programs were initiated by the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and are being successfully implemented by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov. The elected representatives are also expected to contribute to the ongoing work on the consistent democratization of society.
