Information Access Centre Expands Range of Inclusive Services

The information access centre, which operates within the framework of the Innovation and Information Centre of the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan, conducts free computer literacy classes for residents of the country with disabilities.

It has accumulated positive experience in teaching children with hearing problems, and courses have been opened for people with vision problems. Classes are held three times a week for three hours a day. The duration of the courses is two to three months. Classes are taught by a qualified specialist with many years of experience in this field.

The classes use special technologies and equipment for teaching Braille - a raised-dot tactile font designed for writing and reading by blind and visually impaired people. Using a special keyboard for the blind allows students to go online, read books, write emails, listen to music using headphones. These devices help people with disabilities study computer technologies, search for and use the necessary digital content.

As the centre’s employees note, the courses offered are an excellent opportunity to study modern information and communication technologies, as well as find new friends and acquaintances in a warm atmosphere of friendship and understanding.
