Unaging musical comedy “Arshyn Mal Alan” of Uzeir Gajibekov from Azerbaijan has large success on the stages of three theatres of the capital and now its prime release is prepared in Turkmen State Puppet Theatre. The director’s version of Honoured Theatre Artist of the country Amangul Mametyazova is such bright and original so if there would be a creative contest for the best version of “Arshyn Mal Alan”, her staging interpretation of the story could be able to aspire for the first prize.
It is know that in early days in the East, young men could marry only according to the will of the parents. Very often, the new married couples have to know each other only during the wedding ceremony. Asker, the main character of the comedy “Arshyn Mal Alan”, despite the old lifestyle, wanted to get married by love-match. Nevertheless, how one can fall in love with a girl if her face is covered with yashmak? Uncle Suleyman suggested him to pretend as a salesman and to offer the textile to girls and women going from one house to another. “Arshyn Mal Alan” is literally translated as “selling goods by arshyn (old measuring unit)”. The words from the aria of Asker “Oh, thanks to Suleyman, he helped me to get married!” flew around the world. Funny story conquered not only the CIS countries but USA and China as well. It’s been 104 years since it was produced but ever-young “Arshyn Mal Alan” is popular today.
Both artists and pull-wire puppets will be involved in the play of the Puppets Theatre… However, we will not reveal the idea of the author. The spectators are awaited by unordinary interpretation of the famous performance.
I have been bearing in my mind the idea of staging of “Arshyn Mal Alan” for a long time, - Amangul Mametyazova says, - that is why I watched the works of the colleagues on purpose not to be tied up to their versions. I remember the movie only, which keeps exciting memories from the childhood. The objective of our creative team is not just to implement the idea but also to make original, talented and vivid screenplay, which will be loved by the spectators of all ages and will be remarkable event in theatrical life of the country.
