On December 9, 2024, the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan hosted a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov and the UN Assistant Secretary-General for the Rule of Law and Security Institutions Alexander Zuyev, who arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the International Conference "Joint Efforts to Strengthen International Peace and Sustainable Development", as well as other events in honor of the International Day of Neutrality.

During the meeting, the parties noted the special attention paid by Turkmenistan to supporting peacekeeping as one of the main UN instruments in maintaining peace and security. Peacekeeping operations (PKO) are an effective tool for promoting long-term crisis resolution.

Based on the status of neutrality of Turkmenistan, the Turkmen side announced its readiness to consider the forms of its participation in international efforts to strengthen peace.

The prospects for participation in the activities of the relevant UN structure were discussed, taking into account the neutral status of Turkmenistan.

The parties expressed confidence that cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN will continue to develop in a constructive manner.
