For the first time, the Art Gallery of the Union of Artists of Turkmenistan hosts an exhibition of paintings and ceramic works made by Turkmen artists in the Art Nouveau style. This style is more than 100 years old, however, it is still called modern art. Contrary to the realism, the works of painters of this style are not quite clear. But they are very attractive, both for the artist and for the viewer.
Today, eight young painters and one ceramist presented their works at the Art Gallery. The uniqueness of the exhibition is that modernism is present in the works in all aspects. For example, the painting "Movement" by Sapa Purliev is a vivid example of cubism. It colorfully conveys the composition of simple geometric bodies. Squares in color harmonize with each other, creating a pleasant overall scale. If you take the golden squares like sunny days, and the black squares like the night, you will get the movement of time. But perhaps the author did not seek to comprehend his work, presenting in it a contemplative value in the form of geometric abstraction. Oh, no! As stated Sapa, the golden squares are him, and the black ones are Malevich. After such information, I would like to rename the title of the painting "From me to Malevich". Ambitious, like all modernism!
The artist Gakhryman Gochmuradov, known to art lovers as the author of the paintings "Visiting a classmate" and "Dance", painted in the form of a mosaic of multicolored spots, presented for this exhibition an illustration to the epic "Gorogly", created in a surrealistic direction.
Rustam Abdullaev is the most active author at this exhibition. He gives a comment to his work «Golden fish», made in romantic style: «My wife is my muse. I was very lucky in life - I caught my goldfish. It is my back, my happiness». And the heroine’s expression captures the thought: «I have been waiting for this meeting for so long». The painting is painted in a light sunny color in the ocean of love, where fish move in and out, with envy looking at lovers.
In another work, "The First Apple", Rustam presented an apple divided in half, exposing the seeds in its core. The author added the rudiment of a new tree to the apple, mentally transferring the viewer to the time of Adam and Eve. The first apple is the same apple from which, according to the biblical parable, the continuation of life on earth began. The author used symbolism in conveying his thoughts.
In the triptych «Peace and chaos» of Rustam Abdullaev, using a bull symbolizing courage, he suggests that only a woman can tame a man. And if the world had no women, there would be chaos. This reading of the triplet is very appealing to women, especially since it was not written on March 8th. The paintings show the features of impressionism and surrealism.
– Modern means new thinking and new views of the artist, - comments Rustam Abdullaev. - Life is not standing still, so its illumination in art changes as well.
The painting "Mankurt" by Zakirjan Babayev is practically made in a realistic genre, but Zakirjan put so much pain and suffering into the image of his hero that it outweighs the real perception of Mankurt described in the novel by Chingiz Aitmatov "And a day lasts longer than a century", and pulls on expressionism.
The painting «Childhood» by Charimurat Yazmuradov, created in the style of abstraction, leaves a pleasant impression. The artist managed to share bright childhood memories stored in his memory. These are the images of people close to you, and the joyful events that will be forever remembered.
The exhibition was decorated with 14 ceramic works by Turkmen national artist Maral Ataeva. Audience is met by an installation of three elegant vases called «Seljuki». Hand-made paper, from which the vessels are made, imitates papyrus. This shows the author’s desire to emphasize the antiquity of the subject she raised, and the abstract red-gilt painting speaks of the luxury inherent in those historical times.
The installation "He and She" consists of two figures made of black and white marble. The shapes of the figures only vaguely resemble a man and a woman. And at the same time, the female figure is distinguished by sophistication, while the male one exudes strength, character, and willingness to protect. Both figures are made in the style of abstraction.
– The Turkmen carpet ornament gave me a push to abstraction, - explains his passion for modern Maral Bakhshievna. - Some of its elements inspired me to create a figure in the style of modern. For example, the installation of two figures «Motherhood». Do you recognize the carpet element? Why do I use black and white marble? In my opinion, this contrast enhances the attractiveness of my figures.
One of the works - rider on Pegasus is presented in the style of Dadaism. I thought it was a self-portrait of the author, but Maral Bakhshievna ruled me - this work is intended for women who have devoted themselves to creativity. We all need inspiration.
The exhibition of modernism is designed for a wide range of painting enthusiasts and in particular - students of the State Academy of Arts of Turkmenistan and art school, for whom it will serve as an after-school lesson, where you can learn the expression of artists in different manifestations.
