The second victory was won by the Turkmenistan team today at the preliminary qualifying tournament of the World Championship among girls under 14 years old in the Asia-Oceania zone, which is taking place in the city of Isa Town (Bahrain). After a convincing success the day before in the match with the Bangladesh team - 3:0, the Turkmen tennis players won against the Oceania team - 2:1.
The victory was brought to our team by Nazli Hudaygulyyeva and Aylar Kakabayeva, who won their matches in singles. Nazli defeated Joelle Ioane - 6:2, 6:1. And Aylar also beat Alexandria Chand in two sets - 6:3, 6:3. In the doubles match, which was no longer of great importance for the distribution of places in the group, Sara Garahanova and Nazli Hudaygulyyeva lost to Alexandria Amoah and Alexandria Chand in a super tie-break – 4:6, 6:3 [5:10].
As previously reported, the preliminary round qualifying tournament in Bahrain brought together 18 teams divided into 6 groups: «A» - Sri Lanka, Bahrain, Singapore; «B» - Lebanon, Mongolia, Jordan; «C» - Turkmenistan, Oceania, Bangladesh; «D» - Oman, Maldives, Macau; «E» - Kyrgyzstan, Syria, Philippines; «F» - Indonesia, Guam, Iraq.
According to the tournament regulations, only the group winners will continue the fight for two tickets to the final stage of qualification, which will be held from 2nd to 14th of April, 2025 in Malaysia.
Having won two matches, the Turkmenistan team won Group «C» and advanced to the quarterfinals, where they will meet the winner of Group «E», the Philippines. The best of these two teams will face the winner of Group «A», Sri Lanka, in the semifinals.
The other quarterfinal will feature Indonesia and the Maldives. The winner of this pair will play the best team of Group «B», Lebanon, in the semifinals.
Let us recall that the ITF World Junior Tennis team competitions, organized by the International Tennis Federation jointly with the Asian Tennis Federation, are held among girls and boys of two age groups – under 14 and 16 years old. Both tournaments allow young tennis players to test themselves in international competitions and experience the unique atmosphere of team play while representing their country.
