On the 22nd of April, the opening ceremony of the II International Mathematical Olympiad among schoolchildren, held under the auspices of the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan, was held at the specialised comprehensive school №131 in Ashgabat.
The Olympiad in Ashgabat brought together more than 230 talented students and about 50 teachers from 15 countries, including Russia, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Iran, Armenia, Bulgaria, Nepal, China, Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Vietnam, Qatar, as well as our country.
Representatives of the country's education sector, the chairman of the jury of the international Olympiad, members of foreign delegations, foreign and Turkmen schoolchildren made welcoming speeches at the opening ceremony of the Olympiad.
The speeches expressed gratitude to the leadership of Turkmenistan for the wide opportunities provided for the harmonious comprehensive development of the younger generation and the holding of such high-level international events, which play a significant role in strengthening friendship and cooperation between countries. It was emphasised that this Olympiad will largely contribute to identifying and encouraging the most talented young Turkmen and foreign mathematicians, as well as further promoting the principles of international peace and trust.
The meeting of the guests of our capital was organised at a high level, with all the hospitality and cordiality inherent in the Turkmen people. The opening of the Olympiad was accompanied by musical performances in the Turkmen language and the languages of the participating countries, symbolising friendship and peace between peoples. An exhibition was organised in the foyer of the school, introducing foreign participants to achievements in the field of national education, the successes of Turkmen schoolchildren in their studies and at international competitions in different years, creative projects and works of students of children's art schools.
The participants of the ceremony were shown videos dedicated to the rapid development of our country, reforms in the education system and achievements recognised at the international level. Representatives of friendly countries expressed their sincere gratitude to the Turkmen side for the excellent organisation of the event and the warm welcome.
It should be noted that students majoring in Journalism and English Language and Literature from the Turkmen State University named after Magtymguly are actively participating in this significant international event in Ashgabat, acting as volunteers for the Olympiad.
A rich cultural program has been prepared for foreign delegations. In the afternoon, the Olympiad participants have already visited the sights of white marble Ashgabat, the capital's «Ylham» Park and the State Circus of Turkmenistan.
The II International Mathematical Olympiad among schoolchildren will last until 26th of April.
