The closing ceremony of the II International Mathematical Olympiad among schoolchildren, organised from 21st to 26th of April under the auspices of the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan, was held at Ashgabat Specialised General Education School №131.
The event was attended by the Minister of Education of Turkmenistan and representatives of the ministry, the chairman of the jury of the Olympiad, members of foreign delegations, foreign and Turkmen schoolchildren, and representatives of the media.
The speeches of the ceremony participants emphasised the important role of the Olympiad in strengthening peace, friendly and fraternal relations between peoples, and intensifying international scientific and educational cooperation. The participants expressed deep appreciation and sincere gratitude to the leadership of Turkmenistan for creating broad opportunities for holding such high-level events, excellent conditions for the comprehensive development of the younger generation and expanding international youth cooperation.
Words of deep gratitude for the warm welcome and excellent organisation of the event were sent to the Turkmen side by foreign delegates. It was noted that the visit to hospitable Turkmenistan, the excursions to the sights of Ashgabat, museums, parks, shopping and entertainment centers of the city that took place within the framework of the cultural program made an unforgettable impression on them and gave them enthusiastic emotions.
During the ceremony, the awarding of the winners and prize winners of the II International Mathematical Olympiad among schoolchildren was a particularly solemn moment.
More than 230 talented students from 15 countries took part in the Olympiad, which was held at the capital's Specialised General Education School №131. Among them were schoolchildren from Russia, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Iran, Armenia, Bulgaria, Nepal, China, Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Vietnam, Qatar, and our country.
According to the results of the Olympiad, schoolchildren from Vietnam showed high results in participation, winning 6 gold medals. Turkmen students won 5 gold medals. Young mathematicians from China and Uzbekistan received 4 gold medals each.
In terms of the total number of medals, schoolchildren from Turkmenistan came in first place, winning 31 medals, including 5 gold, 9 silver, and 17 bronze. Students from Uzbekistan took second place with 17 medals. Participants from China and Tajikistan took the third place among the Olympiad leaders, winning 10 medals each.
In total, in categories «A» and «B» of the Olympiad, schoolchildren from participating countries won 101 medals of various denominations. A fair assessment of the results of participants was ensured by members of a competent panel of judges, which included teachers of secondary schools in our country and abroad.
In a solemn atmosphere, talented experts in mathematics were awarded well-deserved medals, they were also presented with letters of gratitude and valuable gifts on behalf of the Respected President of Turkmenistan. Musical performances by students of higher educational institutions of the country added a unique flavour to the ceremony.
The II International Mathematical Olympiad among schoolchildren became a significant and bright event that strengthened friendly relations and cooperation in the field of science and education between the countries of the world in the glorious year of 2025 - the International Year of Peace and Trust and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality.
