The match between the national teams of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan ended in a 1-1 draw at the Central Asian Football Association (CAFA) championship among youth teams (under 20) held in the Tajik cities of Gissar and Tursunzade.
The Turkmen football players started the game very actively. With the referee's starting whistle, the wards of Dovletmurad Annaev rushed to press the opponent, which forced the Uzbeks to make a mistake. Immediately followed by an interception of the ball and a pass to Veyisgeldy Orazdurdiev, who dodged two defenders and hit the goal from close range in the 15th second, and became the author of the fastest goal in the tournament.
However, the advantage of the Turkmen team did not last long. In the 6th minute, the players of the youth national team of Uzbekistan launched an attack on the right edge, followed by a shot from the flank. The defender of our team, Akmukhamed Amanov, rushed to intercept, but did it unsuccessfully, cutting the ball into the far corner of his goal.
In the future, the draw score has not changed.
For the Turkmen football players, this was the second game at the 2025 CAFA championship. In the first round, our compatriots lost to the Iranian team – 0:1, preserving the chances of a bronze medal match in Group “B” before the final round. To do this, it is necessary that in the last meeting the "youth team" of Iran beat their peers from Uzbekistan with a difference of at least two goals.
In group “A”, representatives of Afghanistan dropped out of the competition for medals, losing first to the team of Tajikistan – 0:2, and then to the national team of Kyrgyzstan – 0:3. Now the fate of 1-2 places in this group will be decided in a face-to-face match between Tajik and Kyrgyz football players.
As a reminder, the group winners will meet in the finals. The second-place teams in the groups will compete for bronze medals. There will also be a consolation match for fifth and sixth places.
