The delegation of Turkmenistan visited Nice to participate in the XI International Workshop on UI GreenMetric

The delegation of Turkmenistan paid a working visit to Nice (France) to participate in the XI International Workshop on the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking (IWGM 2025), which was held jointly the University of Indonesia and the University of Côte d'Azur in France.

The event on the theme "Achieving the Goals of sustainable development in universities: the history of our society and institutions" was attended by university leaders, prominent scientists, professors, associate professors and teachers from around the world.

Turkmenistan was represented at the prestigious forum by a teacher of the department Microbiology, Virology and Immunology at the Oguz Khan University of Engineering and Technology of Turkmenistan, Serdar Gedayev, as well as Begench Evbagshiev, Head of the academic department at the S.A. Niyazov Turkmen Agricultural University, and Kadyr Amanov, lecturer at the Department of General Chemistry at the same university.

The opening ceremony and the work of the seminar in sections were held in the historic building of the French university, the Chateau de Valros, as well as at the Côte d'Azur Observatory, one of the first large observatories in the world.

Well-known scientists and professors performed at the opening ceremony of the event. The role of universities in biodiversity conservation. A presentation by Emily Stott, coordinator of the initiative, was dedicated to Nature Positive Universities at Oxford University. Professor Janik Briswalter, Rector of the University of Côte d'Azur, stressed the importance of international academic cooperation to ensure sustainable development. Riri Fitri Sari, Professor at the University of Indonesia, Head of the UI GreenMetric rating agency She spoke about the importance of integrating sustainable development indicators into the university management system.

The seminar focused on the crucial role of universities in sustainable development. The four-day event introduced participants to innovative approaches in areas such as energy efficiency, environmental education, natural resource management, and sustainable campus development.

Speaking as Deputy Chairman of the section "The History of our

institutions and communities in waste management system organization", Serdar Gedayev presented to the meeting participants a substantive report on "The use of biofuels from Chlorella Vulgaris as a sustainable energy source in Turkmenistan".

Representatives of the S.A. Niyazov TLC Kadyr Amanov and Begench Evbagshiev jointly delivered a report on "Sustainable waste management: production of organic fertilizers from animal husbandry waste." This project described the features the use of closed-loop technologies to achieve sustainable agricultural development in Turkmenistan.

One of the highlights of the event was the signing ceremony the Declarations were newly adopted by the members of the UI GreenMetric organization, which was another significant step in expanding global cooperation in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Following the meeting, the participants were informed that the University had been chosen as the venue for the 12th International Conference on World University Rankings UI GreenMetric (IWGM 2026) named after Adam Mickiewicz in Poznan (Poland). 

A corresponding report was presented to the audience on this occasion. The participation of Turkmenistan's universities in this conference provided an opportunity to demonstrate their achievements at the international level, as well as exchange knowledge and experience with academic leaders from countries such as Brazil, France, Germany and Indonesia.

Projects on alternative energy sources and solid waste management, presented by university specialists at the meeting, are of great importance from the point of view of sustainable development and ecology countries. The results of the meeting will make a significant contribution to the improvement of scientific and educational activities at universities in Turkmenistan, as well as contribute to the further expansion of international cooperation. 

International platforms such as UI GreenMetric play a key role in ensuring the development of environmentally responsible universities.

The participation of Turkmen educational institutions in the activities of such prestigious organizations plays an important role in maintaining close ties with the global scientific and educational community in order to achieve sustainable development.
