A wide variety of books on education, culture and learning English were presented at the American-Turkmen book fair, which opened on the 24th of July in the State Library of the State Cultural Centre of Turkmenistan.

Young book lovers and their parents who attended the event immediately immersed themselves in the world of knowledge and literary adventures. Each guest was given an intellectual question, after answering which they could choose any book as a gift.
The organisers thought out the logistics of the fair in such a way that, moving from one book stand to another, visitors could not only get acquainted with the presented literature, but also actively practice their English and test their knowledge of the heritage of American society.

Acting Director of the State Library Lachyn Nurmuhammedova spoke at the grand opening of the book fair. She noted the key role of the book depository in the spiritual and moral education of youth, and also spoke about the development of the library system and cooperation with foreign partners.

Then, the US Ambassador to Turkmenistan Elizabeth Rood addressed the audience with a welcoming speech. She emphasised the importance of the event dedicated to the International Year of Peace and Trust, as well as the US Independence Day. The Ambassador noted that reading books expands knowledge, develops thinking and inspires strong leaders and thoughtful citizens.

Elizabeth Rood expressed gratitude to the State Library of the State Cultural Centre of Turkmenistan, as well as the Ministries of Culture and Foreign Affairs of the country for their assistance in holding the event. At the end of her speech, she announced the donation of a batch of books to the library.
The uniqueness of the donated publications is that, being published in English, they also contain translations in the Turkmen language. This is very convenient for young people studying and practicing a foreign language.
