Students of universities of Turkmenistan participated in the OSCE seminar on climate diplomacy

Students of higher educational institutions of Turkmenistan participated in the seminar "Youth participation in negotiations on climate, security and cooperation: OSCE Best Practices", organized by on July 29, the OSCE Center in Ashgabat.

The event brought together more than 30 young leaders, students of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Turkmen State Institute of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Yagshygeldi Kakaev International University of Oil and Gas, State Medical University of Turkmenistan named after Myrat Garryev and the Oguz Khan University of Engineering and Technology of Turkmenistan.

During the seminar, the young leaders got acquainted with OSCE environmental initiatives as part of the organization's integrated approach to security, and also discussed in detail the integration of gender perspectives into the OSCE strategic agenda for promoting equality and inclusivity.

The seminar was moderated by finalists of the OSCE program Young Women for Peace from Central Asia. Together with the participants, the presenters discussed the role of youth in negotiations on climate, water resources and security, emphasizing the importance of the voice of the Central Asia in global cooperation.

The students analyzed the relationship between climate, water and security in global negotiations and explored opportunities for active participation in climate and security diplomacy. During the session on negotiation skills, they got acquainted with practical tools, recommendations and examples of successful practice.

At the end of the meeting, the participants jointly developed a draft youth statement addressing key priorities such as climate security, gender equality and regional cooperation. This document will be prepared for inclusion in the National Youth a statement for COP30 that will enable young people to contribute to the global climate and security agenda.

The event was held in order to assist in the formation of practical skills of diplomatic communication and negotiation among youth representatives participating in the UNICEF Youth Climate Summer School 2025.
