The creative team of the Seyitnazar Seydi State Music and Drama Theater of Lebap velayat has prepared a worthy gift for the 34th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s Independence.
To mark this significant date, they completed the production of the historical play "Syrak," written by playwright Govshutgeldi Danatarov, and presented it to the audience. Although the play is the debut work of the young director, Turkmen State Institute of Culture graduate Dowran Joraev, the premiere received high praise from veterans of theatrical art, writers, poets, and art critics who attended.
The play tells the story of the brave Turkmen youth Syrak, whose name became a legend. While defending his homeland and native land, he sacrificed himself by single-handedly defeating the enemy army. The production depicts how Syrak, overcoming life’s difficulties and retreating into the steppe where he disguised himself as a shepherd, cleverly led the enemy’s thousands-strong army into the Garagum Desert, where all the enemies perished from thirst. Special attention is deserved by the performances of the actors who brought the main characters to life on stage. The role of Syrak was played by the Honored Artist of Turkmenistan Babamyrat Ashyrov; the image of his fiancée, the noble girl Gülchyrag, was created by Ogulbossan Yazjumaeva; the roles of Syrak’s father and stepmother were performed by the People’s Artists of Turkmenistan Babageldi Rejepov and Ayna Roziyeva.
Young actor Remezan Allaberdiyev also put much effort into his role, portraying Syrak’s stepbrother Korpesh. New ideas from the Honored Art Worker of Turkmenistan Myrat Haytiev, who was responsible for the scenography of the historical play, proved very successful. The music, composed by Ilyas Gurbanov, harmoniously complements the content of the production, helping the audience fully immerse themselves in the events.
Overall, the play, dedicated to the themes of patriotism and heroism, serves as an example of love for the homeland for the younger generation. It can be proudly said that this production, timed to the 34th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s Independence, became a worthy gift from the theater’s creative team for this significant celebration.
