Universities in Turkmenistan and the University of Wyoming in the United States signed Memorandums of Understanding

The Turkmen national institute of world languages named after D. Azady and the Turkmen state institute of finance signed Memorandums of Understanding with the University of Wyoming (UW).

These documents were signed on the 24th of October during the current working visit of Turkmen delegation to the USA following talks with the leadership of the University of Wyoming in Laramie. The memorandums formalise the legal basis for cooperation between the universities and mark an important step toward implementing the intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in education, signed in 2023 to develop cooperation between universities, colleges, and research centres in the two countries.

This significant event at the UW was preceded by a series of events aimed at expanding bilateral practical cooperation in science and education. In the morning, deputy minister of education Azat Atayev met with university leadership to discuss the launch of joint educational modules and academic exchanges, the use of the digital learning environment of the university (WyoCourses/Canvas) for co-teaching and materials exchange, and the formalisation of agreements into relevant memorandums.

Negotiations followed at the University of Wyoming's College of Business. The Turkmen delegation was presented with applied educational opportunities: a trading lab with market analytics displays and a «student fund» model (strategy development using real data and real financial responsibility for educational purposes), as well as courses and projects on business analytics, behavioural accounting, and blockchain technologies. The parties discussed joint short-term trainings for faculty, the co-development of project assignments for students, and thematic mini-modules on digital assets and fintech, with subsequent integration of the results into the curriculum.

During the session on pedagogical issues, representatives from the two countries identified the following areas of cooperation: language training (academic English), inclusive education, modern approaches to preschool and primary pedagogy, joint online classroom-to-class classes, guest lectures, and summer schools. They agreed on developing standardised syllabi, exchanging teaching materials, and setting up a UW digital environment for joint teaching and monitoring of learning.

Following this, parallel negotiations were held between the Turkmen State Institute of Finance and the Turkmen national institute of world languages named after D. Azady with relevant departments of the University of Wyoming.

The final meeting with the UW Global team was devoted to agreeing on next steps of collaboration, appointing contact persons, and defining the framework for roadmaps.

Specifically, the upcoming academic semester is scheduled to launch the first pilot activities: short modules on business analytics/financial literacy and blockchain case studies, COIL classes on language training and inclusive pedagogy, and the development of «roadmaps» for teacher exchanges and summer schools.

The parties reaffirmed their focus on practical results and regular exchange of information on the effectiveness of promoting joint projects to scale up successful solutions.
