These days, specialists from the Dashoguz velayat forestry enterprise are engaged in collecting seeds of desert plants. The seeds they gather — of black and white saxaul, cherkez, kandym, and other plants and shrubs — after drying and storage, will be used for future plantings of these species in the desert areas of the region. Part of the seeds will be collected in the Botendag uplands.
The buffer forest zone created here is under constant supervision by the staff of the velayat forestry enterprise. Its workers regularly clean sediment from the beds of the irrigation networks laid here, carry out necessary repair works, and implement various recommended seasonal measures. The large forest massif on the eastern shore of Lake Sarygamysh prevents the spread of dust, combats desertification, salinization, and soil degradation, and contributes to ecological stability and the preservation of environmental cleanliness.
Based on recommendations developed by scientists regarding landscaping efforts, salt-tolerant and soil-fixing plant species have been planted here over the past several years on many thousands of hectares. It should be noted that the flora of the new green area also draws great interest from the faculty of the Turkmen Agricultural Institute located in Dashoguz, who are analyzing the beneficial effects of the shady trees grown on the Botendag uplands on climate regulation and ecological improvement.
