Speaking at a ceremonial reception in Ashgabat dedicated to Romania’s National Day, Mammetguly Astanagulov, Minister of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan, emphasized the substantial experience of mutually beneficial partnership accumulated between Turkmenistan and Romania over the past 33 years.

As noted, cooperation is carried out both on a bilateral basis and within international structures, which confirms the alignment of positions on key issues of international and regional geopolitics.

An important role in the development of cooperation is played by the Joint Turkmen-Romanian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation and the Turkmen-Romanian working groups in the fields of energy and transport.

M. Astanagulov stressed that the shared aspiration of both sides to develop various mechanisms of interaction contributes to the effective implementation of joint projects in priority sectors, including energy, industry, transport, agriculture, tourism, and the humanitarian sphere.

Highlighting these points, the head of the ministry placed special emphasis on transport connectivity.

“One of the promising investment projects is the partnership project in the transport and communication sphere. In particular, the draft intergovernmental agreement on the creation and implementation of an international transit-transport corridor involving Turkmenistan, Romania, Georgia, and Azerbaijan, ‘Caspian Sea – Black Sea,’ which will become a connecting transport link between Asia and Europe,” said M. Astanagulov.

At the same time, M. Astanagulov also drew attention to educational cooperation. Currently, about 400 Turkmen students are studying in Romania. The minister noted that this contributes to strengthening the friendly and historical ties between the two states.

In turn, Ion Naval, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to Turkmenistan, highly praised Turkmenistan’s foreign policy activities and congratulated the country’s leadership on the upcoming International Day of Neutrality.

“The year 2025 is special for Turkmenistan, as the state celebrates the 30th anniversary of its permanent neutrality. Taking this opportunity, on behalf of the leadership of Romania, I would like to extend the warmest congratulations and best wishes for professional and personal success to His Excellency, the President of Turkmenistan, Mr. Serdar Berdimuhamedov, as well as to the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. Their entire political activity is connected with the country’s high status of neutrality and is dedicated to the well-being of the Turkmen people, global peace, and sustainable prosperity. This anniversary is not only an important moment for Turkmenistan, but also a moment when all of us firmly believe in the values of international dialogue and cooperation,” said the diplomat.
