The 4th International UNESCO Model (MUNESCO) Conference was held in Hong Kong. The event was organized by the World Federation of UNESCO Clubs and Associations (WFUCA) and the UNESCO Hong Kong Association (UHKA), with the support of the Bank of China (Hong Kong). Young leaders from more than 20 countries, including Turkmenistan, took part in the conference.

Turkmenistan was represented at the international forum by Emir Sopyev, a student of Myrat Garryyev State Medical University. As an active member of the UNESCO Club “Medicinal Plants – Our Health, Our Heritage,” he participated in the International Conference on the theme “Ethics of Neurotechnology.”

The competition was held in three stages. At the first stage, participants presented reports on the work carried out in their countries and on cooperation with UNESCO. At the second stage, they prepared slide presentations on strategies for the development of neurotechnology and new opportunities offered by artificial intelligence, and discussed the broad potential of neurotechnology in various fields. At the third stage, voting was conducted on the strategies presented by the participants. Owing to his successful performance, Emir Sopyev was awarded a participant’s diploma.

Of particular significance is the fact that such achievements serve as evidence of the effectiveness of the system for nurturing young talents in the spirit of the humanistic ideals promoted by UNESCO. In Turkmenistan, UNESCO clubs operate at higher educational institutions, contributing to the in-depth study of cultural heritage, foreign languages, and the development of intercultural dialogue.

In particular, the “Languages of the World” club functions at the Dovletmammet Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages, while the “Culture of Peace” club operates at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. In December 2023, the club “Medicinal Plants – Our Health, Our Heritage” was established at Myrat Garryyev State Medical University, and in April 2025, the club “Peace, Trust – the Foundation of Humanism and Development” was opened at the International University for the Humanities and Development.

It is also worth noting the activities of the UNESCO Chair “Cultural Heritage: From the Past to the Future” at Magtymguly Turkmen State University, which is engaged in educating the younger generation in the spirit of preserving and developing the country’s cultural heritage.

The International UNESCO Model is a flagship educational initiative that simulates the format and procedures of official UNESCO meetings. The project is designed for young people aged 18 to 25 and provides participants with the opportunity to act as delegates of UNESCO Member States, taking part in structured dialogue and negotiations on issues of global importance.
