A coordination meeting of national media literacy trainers was held at the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat, dedicated to an interim evaluation of the implementation of the project on training specialists in this field.

The main objective of the meeting was to discuss accumulated experience, analyze achieved results, and develop a strategy for the further advancement of information literacy in Turkmenistan. Experts and consultants from Kazakhstan, Duman Smakov and Adil Jalilov, joined the meeting online; throughout the project they acted as facilitators and advisers. The event was coordinated by Svetlana Ostroushenko, Public Information Officer at the OSCE Centre.

Between July and December 2025, national trainers conducted four full-scale seminars involving representatives of various groups, including journalists, students, government employees, and members of the blogosphere. The seminar topics covered key aspects of international and national legal regulation in the field of media and information literacy, as well as practical tools for fact-checking and working with artificial intelligence.

In total, nine trainers have been engaged in the project so far, and an additional ten specialists are ready to conduct independent training sessions in the near future. According to survey results, participants noted the high usefulness of topics such as mobile journalism, the application of AI, development of public speaking skills, and fact-checking.

The trainers shared their mentoring experiences and emphasized the growing interest of audiences in media literacy topics, as well as the importance of thorough preparation for training sessions to achieve the best results.

Plans for 2026 include the development of a standard media literacy training module that can be adapted to the specific needs of audiences in Turkmenistan. The project also envisages holding seminars in two velayats of the country, with the aim of expanding the program’s reach and increasing the overall level of information culture among the population.
