At a regular meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers held via the digital system, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov approved an Action Plan for preparations to hold the Year of International Law in 2028. This initiative, previously put forward by the head of state from the rostrum of the United Nations, is intended to strengthen the legal foundations of global peace and security.
The primary partner of Turkmenistan in implementing this large-scale initiative will be the United Nations Office of Legal Affairs. A number of strategic steps are envisaged within the framework of the approved plan.
These include submitting to the consideration of the UN General Assembly a draft resolution proclaiming 2028 as the Year of International Law; developing the document “International Law and the Neutrality of Turkmenistan,” which will underscore the country’s unique role in global processes; and organizing forums, academic and practical conferences, and briefings both domestically and at the international level.
Special attention in the plan will be given to “legal diplomacy” and to educating the younger generation. In this regard, specialized classes on international law will be held in schools and higher educational institutions with the involvement of world-class experts. Competitions of research papers and essays will be organized among young people to identify promising specialists in this field, and a dedicated informational section will be launched on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
Emphasizing the importance of this comprehensive initiative in strengthening the international legal foundations of peace and cooperation, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov instructed the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, R. Meredov, to begin the relevant work.
