As part of his visit to the Republic of Austria, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Hero-Arkadag met with Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi.
Warmly greeting each other, the interlocutors expressed satisfaction with the opportunity to exchange views on issues of mutual interest.
Hero-Arkadag noted that, based on its internationally recognized status of permanent neutrality, Turkmenistan consistently pursues a foreign policy aimed at strengthening global and regional security.
Noting that the International Atomic Energy Agency highly values Turkmenistan’s commitment to the principles of the peaceful use of atomic energy, Rafael Grossi emphasized that the Agency supports Turkmenistan’s forward-looking policy and international initiatives aimed at strengthening energy and environmental security.
Particular attention during the meeting was paid to the development of bilateral cooperation, which in recent years has reached a qualitatively new level. Hero-Arkadag stressed that Turkmenistan advocates the use of atomic energy exclusively for peaceful purposes.
With the support of the Agency, modern methods of disease diagnosis and treatment are being introduced in Turkmenistan. In particular, consultations with international experts have contributed to improving the system for combating dangerous diseases in Turkmen medical institutions and enhancing the quality of healthcare services provided to the population.
During the talks, the sides also considered issues related to the preparation of a new Country Programme Framework, which will define the priority areas of technical cooperation for the period 2026-2030.
Hero-Arkadag drew attention to the importance of supporting landlocked developing countries. For them, the possibility of using peaceful атомic energy can become a powerful tool for development. In this regard, Hero-Arkadag expressed gratitude to Rafael Grossi for the participation of the International Atomic Energy Agency delegation in the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, which was held in Avaza in August last year.
In connection with the significant anniversaries of the signing of the Treaty on a Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone in Central Asia and Turkmenistan’s accession to the Agency, the National Leader of the Turkmen people proposed organizing a high-level regional forum in Ashgabat.
The sides also exchanged views on important issues of the international agenda. Hero-Arkadag noted that Turkmenistan, as a country committed to the principles of permanent neutrality, advocates sustainable development and peace throughout the world.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Hero-Arkadag and Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Rafael Grossi, expressing confidence in the further development of multifaceted cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Agency, emphasized that it will serve the interests of peace, progress, and well-being.
