On April 22, during his speech at the Regional Ecological Summit in Astana, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov paid special attention to the issue of the rational and equitable use of transboundary water resources in Central Asia.
The head of state emphasized that the country’s official position in this area remains open and consistent.
The President of Turkmenistan outlined three fundamental principles on which the resolution of water-related issues on transboundary rivers should be based:
First – strict adherence to fundamental conventions and other international legal instruments on water-related issues;
Second – equal consideration of the interests of all states located along transboundary rivers;
Third – broad participation of international organizations, primarily the United Nations.
