A ceremonial reception marking the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945 was held in the Turkmen capital. The event was attended by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Turkmenistan, Ivan Volynkin, who in his speech highlighted the invaluable contribution of the Turkmen people to the common Victory over Nazism.

The head of the Russian diplomatic mission noted that celebrating this date together in a united spirit is a testament to the profound respect for the heroes who saved the world.

“I consider it extremely important that today we celebrate the anniversary of the Great Victory together, remembering those who gave all their strength, and often their lives, to save their homeland, sacrificing themselves for the liberation of the planet from the ideology of Nazism. The memory of their incredible resilience and courage will never fade,” said the head of the diplomatic mission.

Special attention in the speech was devoted to the heroic path of the Turkmen people during the war years. It was emphasized that in modern Turkmenistan, preserving historical truth has been elevated to the level of a state priority.

“As you know, nearly every fourth resident of the Turkmen SSR — 300,000 people — defended the Motherland with weapons in hand, and many were awarded high military honors, including the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. The republic became a reliable rear base. Hospitals were established here to treat wounded soldiers, and evacuees from territories occupied by the enemy were warmly welcomed. Throughout the war, trains carrying everything the front desperately needed were continuously sent from Turkmenistan. This is our shared heritage. Therefore, now more than ever, it is important to preserve the truth about that war, about the price the united people paid for Victory, and to pass this knowledge on to future generations,” stated I. Volynkin.

In this context, the diplomat extended warm Victory Day greetings to the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, as well as to the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

The celebration of the 81st anniversary of Victory in Ashgabat once again confirmed that the bonds of brotherhood between the peoples and their shared history remain a solid foundation for the further development of friendly relations.

The festive events in the Turkmen capital became a vivid symbol that the feat of the veterans and home-front workers is forever inscribed in golden letters in the chronicles of the two states.
