On May 26, 2026, on the sidelines of the high-level open debates of the United Nations Security Council, a meeting was held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, and the Minister of State for Europe at the Federal Foreign Office of Germany, Gunther Krichbaum. During the meeting, the parties discussed current issues of Turkmen-German cooperation in the political-diplomatic, trade-economic, and cultural-humanitarian spheres, and also exchanged views on key issues on the international agenda.

The importance of maintaining regular contacts between the foreign ministries of the two countries for the further development of bilateral cooperation was emphasized.

Special attention was paid to cooperation within the framework of the United Nations. In this context, the Turkmen side highlighted the position voiced during the open debates of the UN Security Council on behalf of the Group of Friends of Neutrality for Peace, Security and Sustainable Development, emphasizing the importance of diplomacy, preventive mechanisms, and trust-based dialogue in ensuring sustainable peace and development.

The parties noted the progressive nature of trade and economic cooperation, including the development of long-term and mutually beneficial ties with German companies, as well as their interest in further expanding cooperation in this area.

Considerable attention was also paid to cultural and humanitarian cooperation, including issues of education, human capital development, and the expansion of academic and professional exchanges. In this regard, the importance of further developing the “Central Asia – Germany” dialogue format as a platform for strengthening regional cooperation and promoting joint initiatives aimed at sustainable development and the consolidation of peace was emphasized.
