On 30 May 2026, a cycling event was held in Bucharest, organized by the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Romania on the occasion of World Bicycle Day. About this reports MFA of Turkmenistan.
The event was conducted with the support of the Bucharest Municipality and the Green Revolution Association. Heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Romania, representatives of foreign embassies, officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania, Turkmen citizens, and students participated in the cycling event.
Prior to the start of the event, Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Romania Annamammet Annaev delivered welcoming remarks. In his speech, the diplomat highlighted the significant role of sports diplomacy in promoting the principles of Turkmenistan’s positive neutrality, strengthening international cooperation, and fostering a healthy lifestyle, which are among the key priorities of the country’s foreign policy pursued under the leadership of President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
During the event, special emphasis was placed on the significance of World Bicycle Day, established pursuant to the United Nations General Assembly Resolution adopted at the initiative of Turkmenistan in 2018. The importance of the United Nations General Assembly Resolution of 15 March 2022, initiated by Turkmenistan, entitled “Integration of mainstream bicycling into public transportation systems for sustainable development”, was also underscored.
The participants of the cycling event expressed their appreciation to Turkmenistan for its consistent promotion of environmental, humanitarian, and sports initiatives at the international level aimed at strengthening international dialogue, enhancing intercultural interaction, and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
