On 11 June 2026, a meeting was held between Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan M. Bashimova, Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to Turkmenistan (with residence in Baku) Thomas Schuller-Götzburg, and Elisabeth Weissenböck, Director of the Directorate for International Economic Relations at the Federal Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism of the Republic of Austria. About this reports MFA of Turkmenistan.

The Turkmen side congratulated Elisabeth Weissenböck on her appointment as Co-Chair of the Austrian part of the Joint Turkmen-Austrian Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation. The 13th session of the Commission will take place in Ashgabat on 12 June this year.

During the meeting, the parties noted the high level of bilateral cooperation within international organizations, primarily the United Nations and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).

The diplomats emphasized the importance of the visit of the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Austria, which gave a strong impetus to the development of Turkmen-Austrian partnership.

Particular attention was paid to increasing bilateral trade volumes and strengthening economic cooperation, including within the framework of the European Union’s “Global Gateway” initiative. The important role of the Joint Turkmen-Austrian Commission in achieving these objectives was underscored.

The significance of expanding cooperation between higher education institutions of the two countries in order to promote educational and scientific ties was also highlighted.
