International Day of Yoga Celebrated on a Large Scale in Turkmenistan

On June 21, the Embassy of India in Turkmenistan invited all enthusiasts and practitioners of the ancient discipline promoting a healthy lifestyle to join the celebration of the International Day of Yoga. The large-scale session, which brought together hundreds of participants, was held at the Yoga and Traditional Medicine Center located within the “Bagtyýarlyk” Sports Complex in the capital.

The benefits of yoga have long been recognized. Regular practice of yoga exercises strengthens both physical and mental health, helping individuals cope with stress and external pressures. Yoga not only creates balance between the body and mind but also harmonizes a person's relationship with the surrounding world, fostering qualities such as mindfulness, composure, discipline, and determination.

Bandaru Wilsonbabu, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Turkmenistan, noted that the popularity of yoga in Turkmen society continues to grow steadily.

“Yoga brings people together, contributing not only to healthy longevity but also to peace in our communities. Taking this opportunity, I would like to invite the residents of Ashgabat to attend free training sessions held daily at the Yoga and Traditional Medicine Center in the ‘Bagtyýarlyk’ Sports Complex,” said the diplomat.

The head of diplomatic mission also recalled that the first International Yoga Center in Central Asia was opened in Ashgabat. In this regard, he expressed gratitude to the National Leader of the Turkmen People, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and President Serdar Berdimuhamedov for their comprehensive support and active promotion of cultural and humanitarian ties between the two countries.

For his part, A. Ovezov, Deputy Minister of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan, emphasized the important role of yoga in improving emotional well-being and preventing diseases associated with a sedentary or unhealthy lifestyle.

The choice of the celebration date by the United Nations General Assembly was not accidental. June 21 marks the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. It is worth noting that this year this astronomical event fell on a Sunday.
