The important task of further modernizing the national library system, introducing digital technologies, and creating a unified electronic network has been placed at the forefront by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan. The guiding framework for this work is the “State Program for the Development of the Library System of Turkmenistan for 2025–2029,” under which the collections of electronic libraries are being systematically expanded.
The implementation of this program makes it possible to improve library services in accordance with the achievements of world science and the principles of national development. The measures envisaged contribute to enhancing the quality of library services, expanding citizens’ opportunities to receive education, promoting the country’s interests in the international library sphere, and strengthening the role of the cultural sector in the socio-economic development of the state.
Today, Turkmen book lovers have free access to digital editions from library collections, ranging from classical and historical works to scientific and adventure literature.
According to statistical data, the number of users of the ekitap.gov.tm electronic library—the digital platform of the State Library of the State Cultural Center of Turkmenistan—is steadily increasing. This platform plays a key role in modernizing the culture of reading in society. The online resource represents a digital version of the library’s collection and provides a comprehensive set of virtual tools for accessing publications.
It should be noted that the legal basis for the operation of the platform is Article 11 of the Law of Turkmenistan “On Libraries and Library Activities” (“Electronic Libraries”).
To use the resource, users simply need to register with their mobile phone number and choose a suitable subscription plan. All digital materials—including books, audiobooks, and magazines—are protected by copyright. The educational website features a number of thematic sections, providing maximum convenience for visitors.
A special place in the digital book collection is occupied by the works of the National Leader of the Turkmen People, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, which are in the greatest demand.
